The FIFA World Cup Trophy, often simply called the World Cup, is the most prestigious award in international soccer. It is awarded to the winner of the FIFA World Cup tournament, which is held every four years. The trophy is made of 18carat gold and stands 36.8 centimeters (14.5 inches) tall. It weighs approximately 6.1 kilograms (13.5 pounds).
The current trophy was introduced in 1974 and was designed by Silvio Gazzaniga. It depicts two human figures holding up the Earth. The trophy is not awarded permanently to the winning nation; instead, the current holder keeps it until the next tournament and is awarded a goldplated replica to keep permanently.
Over the years, the World Cup trophy has become an iconic symbol of soccer excellence and is recognized worldwide. The names of the winning countries and the year of their victory are engraved on the base of the trophy.
